Waverley Route PrintsBased on a new series of watercolours by the Borders artist Tom Davidson, these framed prints depict scenes on the long lost railways of the Borders. At one time the Borders were served by a comprehensive network of railways, but, by the end of the 1960's, the entire system had disappeared, victim of Doctor Beeching's axe. These traditionally mounted and framed prints recreate the excitement and colour of steam trains on the Borders Railways in their heyday. Tom Davidson is a graduate of Cumbria College of Art and Design, with diplomas in graphic design. He specialises in landscapes, (particularly of the Scottish Borders) multi-coloured lino cuts, etchings and, of course railway pictures. More information about Tom's work can be found by following this link. |

"Steam on Leaderfoot Viaduct" In this picture of the well known Borders landmark, between St.Boswells and Earlston, we see a "Glen" Class 4-4-0 loco pulling a special train on its return to the main line from an excursion on the branch line to Greenlaw in 1959. |
|
"The Climb To Riccarton Junction" This evocative picture shows a freight train, hauled by a V2 Class engine approaching Riccarton Junction on the long climb to Whitrope Summit. |
"Preparing for Departure" This shows Citadel Station, Carlisle in 1957 and we see an A2 Pacific locomotive waiting to take over the train brought in by the Royal Scot engine on the right of the picture, once a common sight at the bustling border station in the days of steam. |
"Galashiels in the Age of Steam" Here we see the A3 Pacific loco. "Coronach" heading a passenger train at Galashiels Station in the 1950`s. This engine came to the Waverley Line in 1941 and was a familiar sight on the line for many years |
"Heading South Beneath the Eildon Hills" In this, the latest in the series, a B.R. Standard Class 4MT locomotive drifts southwards with a local train from Edinburgh to Hawick in the late 1950`s. The train has just left St. Boswells Station making for Hawick, the Eildon Hills providing a striking backdrop. |
